Our Passion for Education
Welcome to the UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Education Program!
Outstanding education and training for patients, students, residents, fellows, faculty members, and community members are core values for our Department. It is at the heart of who we are and what we do. While we are fully engaged in all aspects of an exceptional academic department - including research, clinical services, and advocacy for women - our passion is excellence in education.
The foundation for our educational mission rests with our faculty, each and every one of whom is fully committed to maximizing all educational opportunities. Clearly, clinical medicine and clinical teaching are interwoven in our department. Be it at the operating room, ambulatory clinic, inpatient rounds, classroom, or research facilities, we are "all in", striving for excellence. The results are undeniable: our medical student rotation is ranked as a favorite within the third-year clerkships; our residents are some of the best in the country our fellows raise the bar for us every day.
We encourage residents and fellows to participate in clinical and basic research studies and to present papers at local and national meetings. Including our protected education time every Thursday morning for students, residents, fellows, and faculty. Activities include didactics, simulation time, lectures on professionalism, Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality, and formal Grand Rounds with presentations by clinical and research experts from around the nation!
We consistently incorporate feedback from trainees, as well as faculty, creating an enriched educational experience. At the end of each six-week medical student clerkship rotation, we conduct exit interviews, gather feedback, and modify the clerkship accordingly. For our residents, we regularly obtain real-time feedback that we use to improve all aspects of our residency program. In fact, we regularly conduct needs assessments and ongoing program evaluation from faculty and trainees. This series of regular assessments offers hands-on, practical workshops on a variety of topics, but not limited to, providing valuable and meaningful feedback to trainees and effective time management.
Cultivating the next generation of leaders in women's health is a commitment we, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, fully embrace! We hope you enjoy learning about teaching initiatives and successes on this site, while getting a sense of the enthusiasm surrounding our educational mission.
