Reproductive Equity cluster hire approved!

Huge, exciting news for the UW Ob-Gyn Division of Reproductive and Population Health, our department, the UW-Madison campus and the statewide future of reproductive health! UW-Madison approved our request for a Reproductive Equity cluster hire!

The Reproductive Equity cluster hire will help the campus build cross-disciplinary research expertise to examine the drivers and consequences of reproductive health inequities and identify potential solutions. This hire will connect existing centers and training programs focused on various aspects of reproductive health as well as attract new funding and expand research activity in this area.

From the UW Department of Ob-Gyn, the hire will be led by Department Chair Laurel Rice, MD, Division of Reproductive and Population Health Director Deborah Ehrenthal, MD, and Professor Jenny Higgins, PhD. Professor Alta Charo, JD, of the UW Law School and Professor Pamela Herd, PhD, of the La Follette School of Public Affairs, will also provide leadership.

The Reproductive Equity cluster request was one of 48 applications, and one of only a few that were funded. Details are still being worked out, but this cluster hire gives us an opportunity to recruit faculty for interdisciplinary research into reproductive health equity.

The UW-Madison Cluster Hiring Initiative was designed to foster collaborative research, education and outreach by creating new interdisciplinary areas of knowledge that cross the boundaries of existing academic departments.
