Letter from Program Director

W elcome to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program! Our residents train at a world-class university medical center in one of the best cities in the United States (according to Livability.com, National Geographic and more). We focus on advancing the field by recruiting and developing outstanding individuals who are committed to improving the lives of women. Whether your career path takes you to academic medicine or private practice, fellowship training in a subspecialty or to a specialist position as a general ob-gyn, you will leave the UW Ob-Gyn residency program well prepared for a successful career.

Outstanding clinical training is the bedrock on which our residency rests. From surgical volume to obstetrical experience to subspecialty rotations, all areas of our clinical and educational missions provide our residents with a comprehensive, robust and frankly amazing training experience. Integrating our clinical programs into a committed and innovative approach to education provides our residents with top-tier training in obstetrics and gynecology.

Working side by side with outstanding faculty, our residents are able to experience progressive responsibility commensurate with their advancing clinical skills. We have a well-balanced, comprehensive program with several unique features, including a global health track, rural training track, resident research curriculum, surgical simulation program, family planning rotation, and resident clinic serving an extremely diverse patient population. Residents also work with a wide variety of patients and conditions in outpatient clinical settings like our Menopause Clinic, Hope After Loss Clinic, CenteringPregnancy groups, University Health Services, and more.

Residents are the heart of the UW Department of Ob-Gyn, and we are committed to promoting wellness during residency. The working and learning environment of our program is built on inclusivity, collaboration, humility, integrity and respect. Each resident is connected to peer and faculty mentors to provide guidance throughout their training. At UW Ob-Gyn, we wholeheartedly believe diversity is a source of strength, creativity and innovation that will help us promote equity in access to quality healthcare. We appreciate the unique contributions of each individual’s identity, culture, background, and experience.

Women’s health is foundational to family and community health in Wisconsin and beyond. It is an honor to help train the next generation of women’s healthcare providers in our comprehensive, creative and caring residency program.

Sincerely,
Dr. Laurel Rice
